Associate Attorney-Client Development

This is an entry level Associate position. However, previous experience in the Southern California construction marketplace is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a professional sales environment focused around consultive problem solving. In lieu of this experience, we will consider candidates with the right personality, attitude and willingness to grow into a world class sales professional. Again, experience or knowledge of the construction industry is a going to play a major factor in your suitability.

This is not a typical first year associate position, where you would expect to be assigned tasks and face a future of writing briefs and doing legal research. You may do some of that, but we would rather have an individual who is mature enough to realize that a successful law career does not have to follow the traditional role of a new attorney. You should be excited about the prospect of combining your previous career skills with your legal education. You will have strong planning and project management skills and be results oriented. We expect the successful candidate to take the initiative on all matters, be self directed and seek out opportunities to achieve the firm's goals.

As an attorney, you will speak to professional trade groups on contracts and construction law topics, and may be asked at times to interpret the law, provide legal advice and prepare legal documents. You will develop a working knowledge of construction law and may make occasional court appearances. Active California Bar admission is required.

Some of your responsibilities may include:
  • Be able to plan and implement a variety of marketing initiatives that support the firm's business development goals
  • Collect, organize and analyze data about existing and prospective clients as well as gather information about key competitors
  • Oversee client contact programs such as newsletters, case status updates, payment status, seminars and events
  • Write trade journal articles and issue press releases
  • Interact with developers, engineers, contractors and suppliers

You will join and actively participate in client trade groups. This may involve securing speaking engagements for firm attorneys. You can expect to represent the firm in client events such as
  • Monthly meetings
  • Fund raisers
  • Golf tournaments
  • Trade group dinners
  • Trade group social functions
  • Skeet and trap shooting events
  • Educational seminars, etc.

A good golf game is a plus, as is an interest in outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting or motorcycles.

You will be spending time outside of the office, including some evenings and weekends attending and participating in client and trade group events. You will be expected to devote as much time as is necessary to out-of-the-office activities in order to win over new clients. No extended out of the area travel is expected.

Unlike a conventional associate position, your job performance will NOT be based on billable hours. You will be measured on your ability to effectively introduce our firm's services to key clients. This is a challenging opportunity for the right person and will take a lot of hard work. You will find that this position is unique to the law firm business model.

Please provide a resume (including bar #) detailing verifiable relevant career employment, a convincing cover letter introducing yourself and your salary requirements. Please submit by email only to : bryan@construction-laws.com.

We provide a competitive compensation package and benefits.
